With a goal of improving the quality of life in Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania, Hillman Foundation makes grants in seven general program areas.
Each year, the Foundation approves more than 60 new grants and payments on previous commitments in response to both local and regional needs. Grants range widely in size and are allocated for large and small capital projects, endowment, new and expanding programs, and on a limited basis, operating support.
In the year ending December 31, 2007, Hillman Foundation distributed $8,603,500 to 72 organizations, including $3,895,500 in 48 new grants and $4,708,000 as 36 payments made on prior commitments. As of December 31, 2007, outstanding commitments of $16,164,000 were carried forward for payment in the period 2008 through 2015.
In the process of evaluating grant proposals, the trustees give priority for consideration to organizations located in Pittsburgh and the southwestern Pennsylvania area that propose initiatives directed at addressing demonstrated community needs.
The Foundation responds to unsolicited proposals for funding and whenever possible will initiate projects to advance the Foundation’s program and funding interests.
Hillman Foundation also seeks to collaborate with other Pittsburgh-based foundations to strengthen support for major community initiatives.
A complete listing of the grants approved in 2007 can be found in the Annual Report section.
