With a goal of improving the quality of life in Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania, the Hillman Foundation makes grants in six general program areas.

Each year, the Foundation approves more than 60 new grants and payments on previous commitments in response to both local and regional needs. Grants range widely in size and are allocated for large and small capital projects, programs, and on a limited basis, operating support and endowment.

In the process of evaluating grant proposals, the trustees give priority for consideration to organizations located in Pittsburgh and the southwestern Pennsylvania area that propose initiatives directed at addressing demonstrated community needs.

The Foundation responds to unsolicited proposals for funding and whenever possible will initiate projects to advance the Foundation's program and funding interests.

The Hillman Foundation also seeks to collaborate with other Pittsburgh-based foundations to strengthen support for major community initiatives.

A complete listing of the grants approved by year can be found in the Annual Report section.
