Hillman Foundation contributes to educational institutions at all levels, from pre-school through graduate school. Grants have included support of capital campaigns for the region’s private colleges, universities, and independent schools; endowed chairs and professorships to attract and retain outstanding educators; scholarships; and out-of-school and education training programs that contribute to the professional development of faculty.
A symbol of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to education is the University of Pittsburgh’s Hillman Library. The core of one of North America’s leading university library systems, Hillman Library was dedicated in 1968 in memory of J. H. Hillman, Jr., founder of Hillman Foundation.
Hillman Library is a gateway to information for thousands of people each day. Housing more than two million volumes and a variety of highly regarded collections, it is a major resource for the university’s faculty and students, and for the Pittsburgh region. Hillman Library has also become a national leader in the application of information technology to library systems and collections.
