Hillman Foundation was established in 1951 with a broad purpose: to improve the quality of life in Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania. Throughout more than fifty years of diversified grantmaking, the Foundation has continued to advance its commitment to this goal.
Beginning with a modest endowment, Hillman Foundation has developed an annual grant program of over $6 million. The trustees have allocated gifts ranging widely in size to support large and small capital projects, endowment, and new and expanding programs. On a limited basis, the Foundation has provided operating support.
Among the notable projects Hillman Foundation has supported over the years are Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems at Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Hillman Cancer Center, the University of Pittsburgh’s Hillman Library, the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse, the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Allegheny Valley School, and Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. These and many additional projects continue to enhance the lives of those who live, work and raise their families in the Pittsburgh region.
